Full Plot Summary of The Shawshank Redemption
Andy Dufresne, a successful banker, is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. During his time at the Shawshank prison, he befriends a fellow prisoner, Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding, a man who has come to accept his life in prison.
Over the next two decades, Andy uses his banking skills to win favor with the prison staff, especially the warden, while maintaining his hope and dignity. He transforms the prison library, helps fellow inmates earn their GEDs, and keeps his spirit alive through small acts of defiance.
Andy's unwavering hope and methodical planning lead to an unforgettable conclusion that demonstrates the power of the human spirit to overcome even the most oppressive circumstances. The film explores themes of hope, friendship, perseverance, and the corrupt nature of institutional power.
