Quick Synopsis
In 1975, during China's Cultural Revolution, a teenage girl named Xiu Xiu is sent from her home to a remote area in the Sichuan steppes to perform manual labor as part of the government's policy of relocating urban youth to rural regions. After spending a year there, she decides to move even further into a more isolated area, accompanying a Tibetan horse herder named Lao Jin to learn the skills of horse herding in this harsh and unfamiliar environment.
Detailed Synopsis of Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl
Young teen girl Xiu Xiu is sent away to a remote corner of the Sichuan steppes for manual labor in 1975 (sending young people to there was a part of Cultural Revolution in China). A year later, she agrees to go to even more remote spot with a Tibetan saddle tramp Lao Jin to learn horse herding.
