Quick Synopsis

On January 31, 1968, a group of 31 North Korean commandos entered South Korea in an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate President Park Chung-hee. In response, the South Korean military gathered 31 convicted criminals and brought them to Silmido Island, where they were trained for a secret suicide mission aimed at killing North Korean leader Kim Il-sung as a way to restore their honor. However, the mission was eventually cancelled, leaving the men feeling abandoned and frustrated. The story is loosely inspired by a real military uprising that occurred in South Korea during the 1970s.

On 31 January 1968, 31 North Korean commandos infiltrated South Korea in a failed mission to assassinate President Park Chung-hee. In revenge, the South Korean military assembled a team of 31 criminals on the island of Silmido to kill Kim Il-sung for a suicide mission to redeem their honor, but was cancelled, leaving them frustrated.
