Edmond Dantès, a young sailor engaged to Mercedes, is betrayed by his close friend Fernand, who falsely accuses him of treason. As a result, Edmond is imprisoned for 13 years in a grim French prison. During his incarceration, he befriends another prisoner who helps him escape and reveals the location of a hidden treasure.
