Fifteen-year-old Charlotte Flax is frustrated with her eccentric mother, who frequently relocates their family whenever she feels it's needed. Their latest move brings them to a small town in Massachusetts, where Mrs. Flax starts a relationship with a local shopkeeper. Charlotte and her nine-year-old sister, Kate, hope this time they can finally establish a stable home. However, Charlotte's developing feelings for an older man complicate their situation, forcing the family to confront their differences and learn to accept each other as they are.
