Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo continue their journey to return to the Central Park Zoo in New York. Their plans change when they need to travel through Europe to track down their friends, the penguins and chimpanzees, who have caused trouble by robbing a casino in Monte Carlo. As they try to avoid capture by Capitaine Chantel DuBois, a determined French animal-control officer pursuing them, the group hides by joining a traveling circus, hoping to stay safe while finding a way back home.

Animal pals Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria are still trying to make it back to New York's Central Park Zoo. They are forced to take a detour to Europe to find the penguins and chimps who broke the bank at a Monte Carlo casino. When French animal-control officer Capitaine Chantel DuBois picks up their scent, Alex and company are forced to hide out in a traveling circus.
