In the Heat of the Sun

Set in Beijing during the 1970s Cultural Revolution, the story follows 14-year-old Monkey and his friends who find themselves with a lot of freedom as many adults have been sent to rural areas. With the city largely to themselves, the boys spend their days exploring, causing trouble, and trying to understand the complexities of adolescence, including their curiosity about girls.
