In imperial China, a young and inexperienced tax collector is assigned to a remote area where he spends the night in an old temple rumored to be haunted. During his stay, he meets and falls in love with a beautiful woman who turns out to be a ghost. To save her spirit, he teams up with a skilled Daoist swordsman and together they face numerous challenges, including battling undead creatures, confronting a dangerous Tree Demoness, and journeying into the underworld to fight for the woman's soul.
Detailed Synopsis of A Chinese Ghost Story
A naïve young tax collector for the imperial government winds up spending the night in a haunted temple. There he falls in love with a beautiful woman who, unfortunately, is dead. With the aid of a powerful Daoist Swordsman, he must defeat undead hordes, overcome a sinister Tree Demoness, and descend to the pits of hell, to fight for the spirit he loves.
