Quick Synopsis

Will Penny, an older cowboy, takes a job on a remote ranch where his main duty is to patrol the property boundaries to prevent trespassing or illegal settlement. When he returns to his isolated cabin in the mountains, he discovers that a woman and her young son have taken shelter there after their guide to Oregon abandoned them. Feeling sympathy and not wanting to force them out as winter approaches, Will agrees to let them stay until the snow melts in spring. Over the course of the harsh winter, the initial tension between Will and the woman gradually fades, and they develop a strong emotional connection despite their solitary lives.

Detailed Synopsis of Will Penny

Will Penny, an aging cowpoke, takes a job on a ranch which requires him to ride the line of the property looking for trespassers or, worse, squatters. He finds that his cabin in the high mountains has been appropriated by a woman whose guide to Oregon has deserted her and her son. Too ashamed to kick mother and child out just as the bitter winter of the mountains sets in, he agrees to share the cabin until the spring thaw. But it isn't just the snow that slowly thaws; the lonely man and woman soon forget their mutual hostility and start developing a deep love for one another.
