Quick Synopsis
After the crucifixion of Jesus, a Roman soldier named Marcellus Gallio, who is struggling with disillusionment and frequently drinks, wins Jesus' robe in a dice game. Unlike his slave Demetrius, who is a devout Christian, Marcellus has never believed in the faith. When Demetrius escapes with the robe, Marcellus begins to experience troubling visions and feels a deep sense of guilt about his role in the events. Believing that destroying the robe will end his torment, Marcellus sets out to find Demetrius, and through this journey, he gradually comes to understand and embrace the Christian faith.
