The Remains of the Day

Set in post-World War I Britain, the story follows a strict and disciplined head butler who has dedicated himself to upholding the traditions and order of the grand household he serves. His routine and sense of duty are disrupted when a new housekeeper arrives and develops feelings for him, introducing the possibility of a personal connection he has long suppressed. At the same time, his loyalty is tested as his employer becomes involved in building relationships with the Nazi regime, forcing the butler to confront the conflict between his professional obligations and his own moral beliefs.
