After successfully raiding a foreign ship, the pirate Chang Pao-Chai discovers that his own ship has sprung a leak. He goes ashore to find materials to repair the damage and encounters corrupt Qing dynasty officials exploiting the local peasants, who live in poverty and oppression. Moved by their suffering, Chang decides to assist the villagers, which leads him to oppose the authorities and become a greater outlaw than before.
Detailed Synopsis of The Pirate
Pirate Chang Pao-Chai springs a leak after an otherwise successful raid on a foreign ship. He goes ashore to get materials to patch his ship up, where he encounters corrupt Qing officials and poor, oppressed peasants. Being a good man at heart, he decides to help out and becomes an even bigger outlaw in the process.
