In the summer of 1984, the small Texas town near Wichita Falls is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Thirty years earlier, Duane was the captain of the high school football team, and Jacy was the homecoming queen. Now, Duane is struggling with $12 million in debt amid falling oil prices and failing banks. His personal life is troubled as his wife Karla struggles with alcoholism, their children frequently get into trouble, and Duane has affairs with friends' wives. Meanwhile, Jacy has returned to town after a moderately successful acting career, living in Italy, and coping with the loss of her son. Many in the community expect Duane and Jacy to rekindle their old romance. Additionally, their friend Sonny is showing signs of mental exhaustion, raising concerns about his well-being. The story explores whether these longtime friends can find balance and stability as they face the challenges of middle age.
