In a city where a man is found dead with a smashed face and burned hands, the investigation reveals strangulation as the cause of death. Detective Kaoru Utsumi is assigned to the case and focuses on verifying the alibi of the victim's ex-wife, who claims she was elsewhere at the time of the murder.
