Raise the Red Lantern

Set in 1920s China, the story follows 19-year-old Songlian, who becomes the concubine of a wealthy and influential lord. Living in his large household, she must navigate the complex and tense relationships with his three existing wives, each vying for the lord's favor and the special privileges that come with it. As Songlian adjusts to this new life, she faces the challenges of rivalry and the strict rules that govern their status within the household.
