Nan shao yi

In this story set in a traditional town, a well-known courtesan played by Xue Zhilun becomes a devoted admirer of a local actor portrayed by Tony Leung Ka-fai. She visits him daily, bringing soup and offering her support as he pursues his career. One evening, the actor finally takes notice of her, and they begin a passionate relationship. However, as time passes, the actor's feelings fade and he grows indifferent toward her. Feeling rejected and desperate, the courtesan tragically takes her own life by hanging. The actor is overwhelmed with regret after her death, but it is too late to change what happened. In his sorrow, he rows his boat along the river, burning all the possessions that remind him of her, attempting to find some form of closure.
