Quick Synopsis

Gwang-ho, a retired elementary school principal from Chungcheong province, had married a young and beautiful woman named Yeon-ha, which made him the subject of envy in their village. During the Korean War, Gwang-ho traveled to Seoul to attend a meeting for school principals. While he was away, his school was converted into a clinic for wounded North Korean soldiers. During this time, Yeon-ha was forcibly taken by communist soldiers and sexually abused, though she was later allowed to work as a cook for the injured soldiers. After the enemy forces retreated, Yeon-ha, deeply traumatized by her experiences, appeared before Gwang-ho, who had been wounded in battle, and tragically took her own life.
