Quick Synopsis

In 1865, shortly after the Civil War ended, a group of Confederate soldiers led by Major Matt Stewart attack a Union cavalry escort guarding a wagon carrying gold, killing the soldiers. The only survivor, who is wounded, reveals that the war had actually ended a month earlier. Learning this, the group decides to keep the gold and head to meet their contact who was aware of the war's end but failed to inform them. Along the way, the tough Rolph Bainter kills this greedy contact, and the soldiers escape using his wagon, driven by Major Stewart. When they encounter a posse pursuing them, Stewart deliberately gives false information to mislead them, but their wagon crashes and they lose their horses. They then stop a stagecoach and force the driver to take them along, but the posse catches up, trapping them at a station with a passenger. It soon becomes clear that the men chasing them are not law enforcement deputies aiming to arrest them, but rather criminals intent on stealing the gold for themselves.
